Incoming freshman at the University of Chicago received a warning in their acceptance letters; a warning that there will be no warnings for provocative or offensive ideas.

The letter, drafted by Dean of Students Jay Ellison, reaffirmed the college’s “Commitment to academic freedom means that we do not support so-called ‘trigger warnings,’ we do not cancel invited speakers because their topics might prove controversial, and we do not condone the creation of intellectual ‘safe spaces’ where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own,”

Last year, the campus was plagued with embarrassing confrontations with student protesters which resulted in speakers either being canceled or silenced. This bold move is a positive step toward restoring freedom of expression on college campuses. Go UC!
