The Turkish government has closed 29 publishing houses according to the Turkish Publishers Association. The assets were seized and transferred to the government treasury by “Decree on necessary measures under the state of emergency and regulations regarding some institutions.”
The TPA decries the move as anti-democratic and an assault on freedom of the expression. The report also states that other media outlets were seized including, “three news agencies, 16 television stations, 23 radio stations, 45 newspapers and 15 magazines.” Here is the detailed story from The Bookseller.
