World Press Freedom at all-time low
It’s interesting that as we become more connected through the Internet and digital media that we are actually becoming less free. Who would have thought that as individual access to expression is more abundant than ever, freedom of expression rights fade further away.
Freedom House released its 2016 report based on 2015 findings and it doesn’t look good. According to the report, press freedom is at its lowest point in 12 years as, “political, criminal, and terrorist forces sought to co-opt or silence the media in their broader struggle for power.” It also shows that only 13 percent of the world enjoys completely free press.
Keep in mind that Freedom House has its own methodology that has been criticized, somewhat, by media outlets and other freedom of expression support organizations as being too subjective and possibly biased. You can be the judge.
