Here is a disturbing story in today’s New York Times about Mount St. Mary’s University’s (MD) administrator’s efforts to silence its critics.

According to the NYT, an article in the university’s newspaper, The Mountain Echo, published comments made by MSMU president, Simon Newman, that referred to struggling freshman as bunnies that need to be put down because their survival at the university was unlikely. The president was quoted, “You just have to drown the bunnies.” and “Put a Glock to their heads.” He mentioned these uncouth comments amid faculty discussions on how to improve student retention.

Subsequent to the article quoting Mr. Newman, the newspaper’s consultant and mentor, Ed Egan, was suddenly canned.
